rubbish and recycling

Dunedin collects the green food-scraps and garden-waste bin weekly. The red rubbish bin and blue glass crate go out together fortnightly, alternating with the yellow mixed-recycling bin. The Tertiary area receives all four services each Tuesday.

Bin-day rules

Before you put the bins out

  • Put bins at the kerb by 7am with lids closed.
  • Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day weekday collections move to the following Saturday; other public-holiday collections continue normally.
  • Central City and South Dunedin CBD properties may use private daily collections instead of the household kerbside service.
