Wellington City Council collects suburban rubbish weekly and alternates mixed recycling and glass on that same weekday. The inner city has nightly rubbish collection and Tuesday recycling.

Bin-day rules

Before you put the bins out

  • Put suburban rubbish and recycling out by 7 am, but no earlier than 7 pm the night before.
  • Alternate mixed recycling and glass on the week shown for the selected street.
  • In the inner city, put yellow rubbish bags out between 5:30 pm and 10 pm; recycling goes out in clear bags on Tuesday evenings.
  • There are no collections on Christmas Day, New Year's Day or Good Friday; the affected collection moves to Saturday.
