Indigo’s urban three-bin system collects organics weekly and alternates general waste with recycling. Some rural areas do not receive an organics service.

  • Accepted paper and cardboard
  • Accepted rigid plastic containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel and aluminium cans

No — keep out of this bin

  • General waste
  • Food and garden organics
  • Batteries and e-waste
  • Loose soft plastics outside the Council program

Organics bin

Weekly in urban service areas; unavailable in some rural areas.

For accepted food and garden organics at urban properties receiving the service.

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps
  • Meat and bones
  • Accepted garden material
  • Cooking oil absorbed into paper towel or newspaper

No — keep out of this bin

  • Ordinary plastic bags
  • Non-Council compostable liners
  • General rubbish

Important rules

Use the service properly

  • Check the published weekday for your town.
  • Only use compostable caddy liners supplied by Council.
  • Loose organics, newspaper or paper towel can be used instead of a liner.
  • Do not assume rural properties receive the green bin.

Is Indigo’s green bin available in rural areas?
Not currently in all rural zones. Check the property’s service.
How often are the red and yellow bins collected?
Each is fortnightly on alternate weeks.
Can supermarket compostable bags go in the organics bin?
No. Indigo says only Council-provided compostable liners are accepted.
